There aren't enough teachers of color

  1. I believe there should be a diverse background of teachers, making students feel comfortable so they can relate to the teachers of their background. The POWER of education isn't evenly distributed in the school system when one race dominates another. In PK-12 nearly half of students of color took up the population, but in college they created the minority. How is it possible we go from making up half of the population to nearly making up 20%? Is it because black students score lower on SAT or ACT test due to challenges “Standard English”. I feel that cultures of different backgrounds should work harder, and strive for excellence, not allowing their education to hold them from their dreams.

  2. After the ruling of brown vs. board of education, there is always that assumption that race is not an issue when it comes to education. However, schools today are still separated and unequal. With unequal institutions and curriculum, schools are a base of contemporary segregation. Therefore schools perpetuate the cycle of a social constructed ideology. Programs like title one and the no child left behind become an amateur act trying to restore decades of embedded racial isolation.
